Pickup trucks are among the most popular vehicles on the market, with only SUVs and crossovers selling more units. Pickups are excellent for anything from a construction site to road trips in luxury – thanks to the advent of luxurious trims.

Around 30 years ago, the pickup truck was a purely utilitarian vehicle that people bought to transport wares and construction equipment in. It didn’t really make sense for anyone to buy one for any other purpose, but then Lincoln tried to make a more premium version of the vehicle in the form of the Blackwood – which flopped spectacularly. Today, the pickup is available in everything from work truck specification to leather-trimmed high-end cruiser – which happens to have a bed in the back. With the advent of the electric car, many companies thought that an electric pickup would probably be a good idea, leading to more than ten different models on the market in 2024.

The electric pickup may not yet be on par with the gasoline or diesel-powered models, but it is a type of vehicle that is becoming more popular. Here are ten of the best electric pickup trucks on the market in 2024.

10 Ford F-150 Lightning

The Ford F-150 Lightning is the first and currently the most popular electric pickup truck on the market. The vehicle is based on the regular F-150 platform, but with heavy modifications to allow electric motors and the 98 or 131-kWh battery pack.

The F-150 Lightning produces either 452 or 580 hp – depending on the battery size – with the power being produced by two electric motors, one on each axle. The Lightning’s towing range may not exactly be the best, but it is a great alternative to the regular F-150 – given short trips are planned.

9 Chevrolet Silverado EV

The Chevy Silverado EV is the next of the big three to debut and promises to be much better than the F-150 Lightning. Unlike the Lightning, the Silverado EV is built on a bespoke platform designed for Battery Electric Vehicles.

The Silverado EV will debut in late 2023 as a 2024 model, featuring a 200 kWh battery – available in both WT and RST trims. Power will apparently be between 510 and 664 hp and the truck will reportedly manage 400 miles on a single charge.

Not to be left out, Dodge recently unveiled the brand-new RAM 1500 REV – the electric version of the RAM 1500. While it follows much of the same ‘electric’ design style as the F-150 Lightning and Silverado EV, it is still a proper RAM.

According to reports, the 1500 REV – Revolution Electric Vehicle – will feature either a 168 or 229-kWh battery pack, the latter of which will have a range of around 500 miles. This makes the RAM 1500 REV the pickup with the most range out of the big three.

7 GMC Hummer EV

The GMC Hummer EV is a behemoth of a vehicle. It weighs in at almost 9,500 lbs, with the battery itself weighing around 3,000 lbs alone – or more than a normal-sized hatchback. The battery itself is a hefty 246.8 kWh monster, providing only 330 miles of range due to the weight of the vehicle.

The Edition 1 trim produced a massive 1,000 hp thanks to its three electric motors; however, the versions on sale now only produce around 830 hp. The Hummer EV is a weird vehicle, as it features a crabwalk mode and an unfortunate energy efficiency on par with older Hummers’ terrible fuel economy.

6 Rivian R1T

The Rivian R1T is currently the best of the best when it comes to electric pickup trucks. The Rivian is a from-the-ground-up electric pickup with quad electric motors and three different battery sizes – namely 105, 135, and 180 kWh. The R1T is also sold as the R1S SUV.

The Rivian R1T currently produces 835 hp regardless of battery size, meaning a 0-60 mph time of around 3 seconds – with off-road-orientated tires. The range varies between 230 miles, 320 miles, and 400 miles – although the extended range version is yet to debut.

5 Toyota Tacoma EV

While not much is yet known about the upcoming Toyota Tacoma EV, we do know that it is coming. The Tacoma EV will most likely be announced along with the new Tacoma – with the model probably taking its styling inspiration from the current Tundra.

The Tacoma EV could pose a problem not only to the upcoming Ford Ranger Lightning but also the larger F-150 Lightning, Chevrolet Silverado EV, and RAM 1500 REV. The Tacoma is a hugely popular vehicle, and we are extremely excited to see what Toyota will do with it.

4 GMC Sierra EV

The GMC Sierra EV is the fancier and more impressive version of the Chevrolet Silverado EV, featuring the same electric outputs and battery capacities – but with a more luxurious interior and driving experience.

The current Sierra is the basis for the Cadillac Escalade and the Sierra EV will most likely be the platform on which the Escalade EV will be based – if Cadillac continues to use the name. The Sierra EV is already announced, with sales starting in late 2023 or early 2024.

3 Toyota Hilux Revo BEV

The Toyota Hilux Revo BEV is the Japanese company’s answer to the current crop of electric pickups. Unlike the F-150 Lightning, Silverado EV, and RAM 1500 REV which caters mostly to the North American market, the Hilux Revo BEV will be sold across the world – Increasing the Hilux’s reign.

Like the Tacoma EV, not much is known about the Hilux Revo BEV, but the conversion shown off in December 2022 showcases EV-specific styling and an improved drivetrain. Our guess is that the vehicle was more of an intention to build an electric Hilux, rather than a showcase – with the next generation Hilux getting the EV treatment.

2 Canoo Electric Lifestyle Vehicle

The Canoo Lifestyle Vehicle is a van/pickup truck that caters to the more adventurous among us, showcasing an untraditional layout and styling. The Canoo LV is designed as a rugged outdoors EV which will feature an 80 kWh battery and around 250 miles of range.

The Canoo LV will have a single electric motor that allows the vehicle to accelerate to 60 mph in about 6.3 seconds, all while carrying six people and their adventure gear. Thanks to the clever chassis design, the Canoo can be either a traditional van or a useful and rugged pickup truck to transport surfboards around.

1 Tesla Cybertruck

Ah, the Tesla Cybertruck! While the model was brewing in the factory, the rest of the motoring world released their own electric trucks that are more comfortable and look more conventional than the big hunk of angular stainless steel from Tesla.

While the Cybertruck was spotted all over Tesla’s proving grounds, completing suspension tests and speed runs, it is still unclear when we will get to drive it. Then again, it’ll probably be outdated by the time it arrives on the market – if it ever makes it that far.
