With the R 1300 GS, BMW's flagship touring motorcycle will enter a new generation, with a bigger-displacement engine and a whole host of next-gen tech and features to boast. The top BMW GS motorcycle has been one of the best-selling motorcycles, especially in the UK, for two decades now, and considering what we already know about the upcoming R 1300 GS, it will surely follow suit. After all, not every motorcycle gets to sell over a million units. The current 2023 BMW R 1250 GS rides on a 1,254cc engine that jets out 136 horsepower with 105 lb-ft of torque. With the 1300 GS, not only is the engine's displacement up, but also its power figures. The 2024 BMW R 1300 GS horsepower is 143.5 hp, along with 109.9 lb-ft of torque. This information is available thanks to the highly-anticipated motorcycle's Swedish homologation data being leaked a while ago.

This new 1,300cc boxer-twin engine will arm the 2024 BMW R 1300 GS, and from the looks of it, BMW will also offer a dual-silencer setup. This would be optional, and the default BMW R 1300 GS silencer could have just one end. Of course, the new BMW R 1300 GS will also be compliant with Euro 5 emission norms. Where the current 1250 GS tops out at around 136 mph, the BMW R 1300 GS top speed should be 140 mph or more, according to revealed specs. Most impressively, however, the new engine is far from the only remarkable thing about the new BMW flagship tourer. Not only will the bike ride on a completely new frame, but will also house state-of-the-art features that would be the envy of plenty of car owners, too.

Ever since the bike's inception, the BMW GS family has always utilized a stiff tubular frame. Having completed over four decades, it's a decidedly significant step for the motorcycle to now be ditching the tubular frame, and replacing it with a new one. The 2024 BMW R 1300 GS looks to be riding on an all-aluminum frame, and we can't wait to see more of it, as spy shots can only go so far. According to revealed documents, even the dimensions of the new BMW GS would be different, and the 2024 model will be larger than its predecessor. Not only is the 2024 BMW R 1300 GS 5mm longer, but it's also significantly broader than a 2023 R 1250 GS, adding 48mm of width to the existing 952mm of the 2023 bike, reaching a full 1000mm width.

Coming to height, the 2024 BMW R 1300 GS has had three separate heights listed, which would either indicate an adjustable height system like we saw in the Harley-Davidson Pan America, or a height-adjustable windshield. What's most remarkable, however, is that despite more features and a larger engine displacement, the '24 R 1300 GS will actually be a lot lighter, thanks to its frame being aluminum this time around, rather than steel. We're still not sure how we feel about that, considering steel frames are known to be a lot more durable, especially in harsher environments like the BMW GS prefers. Even smaller GS variants, like the R 310 GS, have proven to be capable beginner motorcycles for adventure tourers.

2024 BMW R 1300 GS Pricing

The pricing for the upcoming BMW R 1300 GS is where things get quite interesting. BMW themselves ended up inadvertently listing the pricing for not just the upcoming 1300 GS, but even an R 1400 GS on their own service request website. Of course, you won't find said entries today, since BMW was quick to remove them, but screenshots were taken, and prices were revealed. From the looks of it, the 2024 BMW R 1300 GS will start at $19,590, just below the $20,000 mark. This service request blunder revealed the existence of not just a BMW R 1400 GS, which could be the bike's hardcore, dirt-riding sibling, but also an M 1300 GS, which we fully expect to be a lighter and more powerful, faster variant sometime in 2025.
