By now, you probably already know that Greta Gerwig’s highly anticipated Barbie movie is coming out this summer. The story, which revolves around the adventures of the world-famous, blonde-haired doll played by Margot Robbie, suddenly resonated with the automotive world when Warner Bros. Pictures released trailers and promotional materials showing Barbie’s pink car: a classic C1 Corvette. Just like the entire movie set, the car is fully pink, with a pink paint job, a pink dashboard, a pink steering wheel and the list goes on. Upon closer inspection, the Corvette’s design with its single round headlights and its curvy rear bumper give us strong clues that the car used a 1956 C1 model as its inspiration. But is the C1 Corvette used in the Barbie movie a real car at all? Well, we know it’s a little bit modified to fit the plot. The original Corvette is a two-seater, but the movie’s Corvette offers a 2+2 configuration for Ken (Ryan Gosling) to tag along on Barbie’s road trip. But more questions come to mind. Is it an EV restomod with two extra seats, or is it simply a human-size, toy car prop? Well, the answer is not as straightforward as you’d think, and Barbie’s Corvette could actually be a mix of everything depending on what you are looking at. Here’s what we found out.
